HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM)- On a beautiful Wednesday August night, Marshall Women’s Soccer (1-0) hosted Glenville State (0-0) for the home opener of the 2025-2026 season.

Glenville State looked to win its first game of the year, while Marshall looked to go 2-0 for the first time since 2021.

Lets just say it was a stampede by the Herd, as it would win 6-0, with all goals being scored by different players and outshooting the Pioneers 27-1.

There was a lot of scoring, so let’s recap, shall we?

It only took the Herd 11 minutes to get on the board as a perfect corner pass in from Fernanda Dantes would find Geovanna Souza for the first goal of the game.

After 20 minutes of pressure from the Herd, it would score again as review would trigger a yellow card and a penalty kick for Bailey Fisher. She would go on to convert her second goal in two games and make the score 2-nil

Only four minutes later, Marshall would strike again. A sequence of great passes finished by Marcella Alves would set up the header for Larissa Ozorio, which gave Marshall a 3-nil lead going into the 2nd half of play.

Glenville State did show a bit more fight in the 2nd half, as it would get some chances in its zone and hold Marshall scoreless for over 30 minutes of play.

Dantes put more of her name in the scorebook, as she would add a goal in the 76th minute on a left foot tear-dropper that would find the upper-right corner of the goal to make the score 4-nil.

It did not take long for the Herd to strike again. In the 82nd minute after a long pass into the box, Kajsa Ekstrom would head the ball that would get a Marshall bounce and sneak by the Pioneers keeper to make the score 5-nil with under 10 minutes to play.

Surprisingly, there would be a one more goal scored. With under 10 seconds to play, Tiggi Gent was in the right place at the right time, as a ricochet would find her and she would put it in the left side of the goal to give us our final score of 6-nil.

Marshall is now 2-0 for the first time since 2021 as Glenville State falls to 0-1.

The Herd will have a couple days to rest before they head to Athens, Ohio to face off against MAC foe Ohio on Saturday, Aug. 24. First touch will be at 4 p.m.
