HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WMUL-FM)— The Marshall Women’s Soccer Team returns to Hoops Family Field on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, where the Herd will host Glenville State in its 2025 home opener. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
The Thundering Herd (1-0) opened its season in impressive fashion with a 3-0 victory at Morehead State last week. Marshall dominated possession and created chances throughout the match, outshooting the Eagles 19-5 while recording its first road win since 2023.
The victory also marked the first career shutout for goalkeeper Emma Durand, who commanded the defense and made key stops to preserve the clean sheet.
Bailey Fisher put the Herd on the board in the 14th minute, calmly converting a penalty for her first goal of the season. The veteran forward was active all night, registering eight shots, including four on goal.
Marcella Alves doubled the lead just before halftime, rising to head in a corner kick from Fernanda Dantas. The goal came in Alves’ Marshall debut.
Tiggi Gent capped the scoring in the 72nd minute, finishing off a smooth build-up with an assist from Brooklyn McComas. McComas also stood out with her creativity in midfield, tallying an assist while helping link play between the back line and attack.
Glenville State, an NCAA Division II program from the Mountain East Conference, makes the short trip to Huntington looking to test itself against Division I competition. The Pioneers will rely on energy and discipline as they attempt to slow down a Marshall team clicking early in the year.
While Glenville State’s roster features less Division I experience, the Pioneers enter the match eager to gain valuable early-season minutes against a higher-level opponent.
The meeting with Glenville State kicks off a three-match homestand for Marshall. The Herd will look to capitalize on its home-field advantage to build momentum before turning to Sun Belt Conference play in September.
