HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM)- On Thursday, Marshall Head Baseball Coach Greg Beals announced five new transfers to the Thundering Herd. “I am excited about this group of five transfers who will greatly complement our ball club and university,” said Beals. Thank you to Herdzone for providing this quote.

The newcomers for the 2026 squad include Evan Bottone, outfielder that spent two seasons at Akron and played in 105 games with a .298 average, 122 hits, 57 RBI, and a .402 on-base percentage. He also recorded a team-high 21 multi-hit games in 2025. He excels at hitting gap-to-gap, getting on base and getting RBI as he was fifth in that category for the zips in 2025. He looks to strengthen the Herd offense.

Alex Caudill, a pitcher, spent two seasons at Lake Erie College, were he had an ERA of 5.04. Caudill does a good job at getting strikeouts and not giving up hits. He has an 11.5 k/9 and possesses a 6.6 h/9. Another good factor is that he uses is his ability to limit home runs as in 89 ⅓ innings he has pitched in college, he has only given up four long-bombs. Caudill looks to his elite strikeout arsenal to help out the pitching staff and complement Bryce Blevins and Griffin Miller.

This will not be the first stop for Drew Harlow at Marshall, as he spent his first 2 collegiate seasons at Marshall before going to Lenoir-Rhyne. He maintains a 4.98 ERA as last year was a big breakout year for him. He had the fourth most strikeouts in the country, the ninth best whip at 0.85 and the sixth best strikeout to walk ratio at 9.29. He also gives up less than one home run per nine innings pitched as he can limit hard contact. He looks to battle for one of the top three starter spots for Marshall.

Oliver Service, C, spent two years at Texas. He had limited playing time as he only appeared in eight games with eight plate appearances for the Longhorns, and had three hits and three RBI. So far, he has only started one collegiate game. He will battle with Sophomore Jackson Golden for the starting catcher job.

Clearly Simpson, INF, spent two season at Northern Kentucky and one year at Florida Southern. For both of the teams he batted .326, had 149 hits and 93 RBI. A very interesting and under the radar fact is that he has walked 28 more times than he has struck out in college. He looks to fill in the infield and use his strong plate discipline to strengthen the bottom part of the Marshall lineup. These players look to make their mark as Fall camp begins for Beals and the Herd.
