Recycling at Marshall University

At Marshall University, recycling is a simple yet powerful way to conserve resources and make a positive impact on our campus, community, and the environment. Recycling helps reduce landfill waste and conserves materials that can be reused, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable world.

Recycling Made Easy

Recycling at Marshall is easy with bins located throughout the campus, designed for easy access by students, faculty and staff.

We encourage everyone to Be Marshall Green by practicing the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Campus Recycling Process

Recycling is collected across campus and brought to a compactor located between Harris Hall and the Science Building. Once the compactor reaches capacity (approximately 10 tons), it’s hauled to a recycling processing plant. The materials are then sorted for proper processing:

  • Cardboard is sent to Temple Inland in Maysville, KY.
  • Aluminum, plastic, steel, and fiber products are sent to Columbus, OH for single-stream processing.
  • Trash is directed to the Wellston, OH landfill.
