Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Marshall University Information Technology (MUIT) is currently reporting a substantial number of computers in our inventory that cannot be upgraded to Windows 11. In preparation for this transition, MUIT needs your help to ensure the university community has the appropriate equipment to maintain operations without interruption.
How can you help?
If you are a full-time university employee and believe your current computer cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 or is aging and in need of replacement, please complete the Computer Lifecycle Request Form available here: Computer Request Form.
On the form, scroll to the bottom of the page and select “Computer Lifecycle Request.” Remember, the university will only supply one device per full-time employee (as resources allow).
Once you click the request link and log in, you will be prompted to select your computer. If you use multiple devices, all of them will be listed—please choose accurately. Your primary device should be the newest one you use regularly. For example, if you have a newer laptop and an older desktop, the laptop should be selected as your primary—even if you mostly use it for travel or working remotely. This process cannot be completed for you, everyone must complete the form themselves as this process is tied to your Marshall ID and position number.
If your current device can run Windows 11 but you believe it still needs to be replaced, you are encouraged to complete the form as well. This will help inform planning and budgeting for the next replacement cycle.
Additional Support:
If you are uncertain about your device’s eligibility or have questions about this process, please do not hesitate to contact the MUIT Service Desk. Completing the form does not ensure you’ll receive a new computer immediately or in this cycle, but it does put you on the replacement lifecycle.
