The Kolling Lab in Marshall University’s Department of Chemistry is making headlines again—this time in collaboration with the Hicks Lab at UNC Chapel Hill. Their new publication in Journal of Proteome Research explores how bacterial bile acid metabolism shapes the human gut microbiome, providing new insight into the complex interactions between our bodies and the microbes that live within us. Leading the charge was Brendin Flinn (M.S. Chemistry, 2024), who shares first-author honors and is now continuing his scientific journey in the prestigious MD-PhD program at Vanderbilt University. Fellow Marshall co-author Aaron Grimmett (B.S. ACS Chemistry, 2026) also contributed to the research.

Congratulations to the team on this impactful contribution to biomedical science and a big win for student-led research at Marshall!
