Physics brings the fun to Propel youth camp

Share

Drs. Sean and Sachiko McBride from Marshall University’s Department of Mathematics and Physics brought out the fun side of physics during their second round of participation in the PROPEL Youth Enrichment Camp on July 8! Hosted by the Prevention Empowerment Partnership (PEP) in collaboration with the Phil Cline Family YMCA in Huntington, the camp invited the McBrides back by popular demand to deliver hands-on, curiosity-sparking science activities.

Students were treated to an immersive portable planetarium show and a high-energy, hour-long physics demonstration—full of wow-worthy experiments and interactive learning. The programming aligned perfectly with the camp’s mission to inspire, educate, and open doors to new opportunities for local youth.

Assisting with the event were National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) participants Isabella Mays (William & Mary), Claire Brown (Appalachian State), and Alex Petula (Penn State), who helped bring the excitement to life.

With sparks flying—literally and figuratively—it was a day of discovery students won’t soon forget!
