Congratulations, Dr. Laura McCunn! Professor Laura McCunn of the Department of Chemistry has published a research article, “Characterization of the pyrolysis products of 2-pyrone via matrix-isolation FTIR,” with a team of Marshall students and recent graduates. The article appears in a special issue of the Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy that features work done by undergraduate and master’s students and is based on the senior capstone project completed by Khaled El-Shazly, 2024 B.S in Biochemistry and first-year student at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. The research examines how the cyclic, oxygenated hydrocarbon 2-pyrone reacts at high temperatures, which often occurs during the production of biofuel from plants.
