
Biography
Dr. Lovett is an Assistant Professor in the Special Education Department and Director of the M.A. Applied Behavior Analysis Program at Marshall University. Dr. Lovett earned her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation with a specialization in Behavior Analysis and a M.S in Behavior Analysis and Therapy from Southern Illinois University, and she earned her B.S. in Psychology at Western Michigan University. Dr. Lovett has been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst since 2010 and has nearly 20 years experience working in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis including 12 years teaching in higher education. Much of her clinical work is devoted to teaching language and social skills to children, adolescents, and adults with language impairments.
Dr. Lovett’s main research interests involve investigations of verbal behavior including: 1) interventions to teach advanced verbal and social skills, such as perspective-taking, 2) factors that promote generalization of advanced verbal behaviors, and 3) educational interventions that use a verbal behavior foundation to teach advanced learners, such as college students. Her work incorporates aspects of several behavior analytic theories of verbal behavior including Skinner’s verbal behavior, stimulus equivalence, and Relational Frame Theory.
