Biography
Dr. Lisa Heaton is the Department Chair of Curriculum & Instruction at Marshall University. Her work focuses on preparing educators to meet the demands of today’s dynamic learning environments. She teaches and mentors both Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and M.A. in Education students, with a particular focus on those specializing in Instructional Technology & Learning. Her areas of instruction include instructional technology, curriculum design, and doctoral research. Dr. Heaton is recognized for her commitment to student success, serving as an advisor, dissertation chair, and seminar leader who supports graduate students through portfolio experiences, research development, and career planning.
Dr. Heaton’s research interests explore technology integration and emerging technologies (i.e., artificial intelligence) in education, distance learning, and professional development for educators. She has extensive experience in program evaluation for state and district agencies, contributing to data-informed educational improvement efforts. A highlight of her applied work includes collaboration with area school districts to develop standards-based, professional development experiences for in-service teachers. These efforts include developing more than 40 funded grants to support school improvement. Through her leadership, scholarship, and mentoring, Dr. Heaton remains dedicated to supporting students in their academic and professional growth.
